At the age of nine I decided creating was where my happiness was-sitting on the floor and sketching designs for hours.  Growing up in New York, my sights were set on the Fashion Institute of Technology where I could go and learn to create beautiful clothes. 

​I got my acceptance to F. I.T. and realized Fashion Design didn't work for me.  My interest shifted after my accidental start and success with jewelry design my freshman year.  A few years past and I graduated with a BFA in Accessories Design and nationally recognized jewelry line. A truly exciting journey you can read about on my jewelry website www.michalyakar.com/about.​

After having my daughter, postpartum interfered with that passion and I had a very hard time trying to get the inspiration again.

Where this path changes, another journey starts.

When my sister passed away suddenly.  All I could think is how can I feel a connection with her again?

I decided that every week for one year I would make an exquisite arrangement for my sister to display next to a picture of us when I was five and she was ten. 

After the year closed I continued arranging for myself and eventually for countless others.  When I decided to officially create Petal & Chic Winter Park I realized this was the most harmonious way of combining my two creative outlets into one. ​​​

My sister is the reason I got into design at nine and she is now the reason I have found my place of happiness again...just a different medium.​​
